Submitted by asc-admin on May 13, 2022 - 5:44pm
At the next Member’s Meeting on Thursday, June 9th the Andover Sportsmen’s Club will be hosting a presentation from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC). They will bring one their tactical vehicles, their gear and even robots for view at the Trap Field at 5:30pm. At 6:30pm member’s can enjoy dinner and the opportunity to speak candidly with officers. At 7:30pm, prior to the start of the regular meeting, a formal presentation will ensue with a question and answer period.
NEMLEC is a consortium of police departments in Middlesex and Essex Counties, and two County Sheriff’s Departments. Member agencies operate by sharing resources and personnel, collectively providing services to each other that might not be available to one. Specialized services offered by NEMLEC include:
- RRT/SWAT - Regional Response Team and SWAT Team (which includes a Crisis Negotiation Team) and K-9 Unit trained in search & rescue.
- Motor Unit - Provides escorts, traffic safety and crowd control
- CISM Team - Critical Incident Stress Management Team
- STARS - The School Threat Assessment and Response Team is made up of police officers and licensed clinicians who respond to critical incidents at schools as well as provide threat assessments to member districts
- IMT - The Incident Management Team provides support to all NEMLEC units in terms of communications and coordinates same and operational plans for large scale events
NEMLEC coordinates this sharing of personnel and resources to provide its member agencies with the ability to provide supplemental services to the 1.7 million people in the 925 square miles they serve. As such, officers from NEMLEC’s agencies can be made available in other communities during an emergency or event that requires police services beyond what local police may have. NEMLEC coordinates the provision of mutual aid and the sharing of these officers between agencies, in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws. Responding officers that report, to provide mutual aid, are under complete control of, and follow all commands given by, the local police chief of the department that requests NEMLEC’s services.
