Board of Directors Update - September 2014
Submitted by asc-admin on September 5, 2014 - 12:00am
The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of September 2014.
Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.
Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
As of August 1, 2014, youths under the age of 18 years are required to display a Youth Badge when using any of the firearm ranges. Classes to obtain a Youth Badge can be found on the web site under Training.
Thus far we have issued 63 Youth Badges and continue to have strong demand for the class. New sessions will be added with respect to demand.
Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
Only approved targets are allowed to be used on the range. No one is to be using any makeshift targets. This is a serious safety hazard.
We are currently looking into revamping the targets for the range, including a new target system.
Please keep in mind that only targets marked specifically for pistol are to be used on the pistol side of the range.
I will be looking for volunteers for the Fall work party. Please sign up early.
Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
The summer has now ended and maintenance will be upcoming on the indoor range to include painting and replacement of some of the sound proofing. In order that this may be achieved the range will be closed. The time has not been set yet. It is strongly recommend that the website be reviewed before coming to the range. The AC unit will be left in place until the end of September.
Trap (Tony Capone):
August was a busy month on the trap field and we shot a record number of rounds.
Trap has been getting busier each month and I would like to thank everyone that shoots here for all the help. I want to thank all the trap operators for all they do to keep the trap/skeet field going 100%. I would especially like to thank Brad, Jimmy and Al for the great job with the completion of the trap warming house interior. Also want to thank Steve H. for all the recent repairs to our equipment. Great job everyone!
Clay targets will need to be ordered very soon, we are going through them very quickly.
We are planning a 75 bird shoot for Sept 20th at 9am. Please see website for details.
Archery (Bob Felsberg):
This summer’s Tuesday Night Archery, Tuesday nights 6-8 PM, was well attended. There were plenty of new faces and people coming out to shoot for the first time, or who had not shot for in long time. The weather was excellent, and it had people out of their houses and over to the club.
Some of the fall Archery activities will involve having a bridge built at target #19, along with adding five shooting positions in the target #19 area, moving and rotating targets for the 3D course, adding more mulch on the outdoor archery range, target repair, and general trail improvement. More to follow.
Security (William MacKenzie):
The month of August was slow, with only one report of an item that was left behind by a member at the outdoor range in which an email was sent out inquiring that if anyone found it to please notify the Outdoor Range Director.
Facilities (Mike Pierce):
The following facilities projects are those completed, initiated, or proposed that are in addition to general maintenance projects. There is no assurance that those listed on the "wish list" will be progressed further as that will be largely dependant upon completion of appropriate due diligence/feasibility undertakings.
Projects Completed:
- New filters were installed in the air make up system on March 31, 2014 for the indoor range, and the air quality is noticeably improved. The lower level of the club house has been de-leaded and all waste has been removed from club property.
- The lower space of the club house has been deleaded and all waste has been removed from club property
- Trap shelter modifications including wiring, insulation and new siding
Approved but not yet started:
- Club house remodeling of walls and lighting along with ceiling tiles
- Installing an LED sign to inform members of up and coming functions
Community Relations (Paul Miller):
Comm2A, a 501(c)(3) organization in MA dedicated to using the federal courts to win back access to our Second Amendment freedoms, has put together a primer for gun owners (http://www.comm2a.org/images/PDFs/h_4376_explained.pdf) on what has changed for gun owners with the passage of the gun bill in August 2014. They will be at our monthly meeting (Sept. 11th) to go over the changes and answer questions.
