March Madness 100 Results
Submitted by asc-admin on March 3, 2014 - 11:24pm
March 1st was a cold, but sunny Saturday morning. At 8:30am, the cars started rolling in and before we knew it we had 13 shooters for our 100 bird shoot. We classified all the shooters on past and present averages and we ended up with five class "A" shooters and eight class "B" shooters.
Each class was competing among themselves for the prize money in their class. After the squads were made up and a brief safety and rules meeting, we were under way.
The "A" shooters (Tony C, Steve L, Kip S, Whit H and Mickey) took to the line first, to shoot their first of two 16yd relays. Kip came out on top with a score of 23.
Next up was the first group of "B" shooters (Erik A, Suzanne H, Sam W and Steve H) from the 16yd. Steve H was a man on a mission breaking 19 of 25 to lead the "B" class. Next up was squad 2 "B" (Cheryl C, Peter C, Doug H and Matt K) despite Cheryl's great start on stations 1 and 2 she was just edged out by Doug and Matt who both shot an 18 (great to see Doug shooting again).
After the second relay for both classes, the leaders were "A" Kip with a 45, and "B" Erik with a 36. Now it was time to back up the shooters to the 22yd line and see how they could do.
Despite a bad first round from 16yd, Tony C was out to prove he could still win it, finishing the 22yd shooting with a 35. Unfortunately it was too late; Kip had a big enough lead going into the last two rounds that he had to be perfect to catch him. Ultimately Kip shot a pair of 17s to put the "A" class away... Way to go Kip!
The "B" class was getting close as Cheryl, Sam and Doug were bringing on the heat and Erik had to clamp down not to blow his lead. But in the end Erik hung on to the lead and took home the top prize in the "B" class.
After all was said and done, and the guns were put away, we took half of the prize money and did a random draw for a second winner in each class. The lucky winners were Steve L in "A", and Peter C in "B". A few other prizes were given out to high and low scores of the day. All in all, it was another great event and fun was had by all.
We plan on running more events like this so please keep an eye on the website for upcoming shoots.
