Board of Directors Update - December 2015
Submitted by asc-admin on December 7, 2015 - 2:15pm
The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of December 2015.
Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
At the December 10 members meeting we will again have a special Christmas feed. Last year's was well attended so we advise getting there a bit early to socialize a bit, and enjoy the outstanding cooking by our resident chef Richard Bruce.
The November Youth Firearms Safety class was full and the December class is quickly filling. We suggest registering before the class fills.
Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
We will be scheduling one more work party to load the storage container and install the door on the warming room. I will post the date as soon as I get it worked out.
The new outdoor range rules are posted. Please take a few minutes to read and understand them.
Remember to check the club calendar for dates that the range is closed for police training.
- Fire arms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.
- Ground shooting at any targets is not allowed on the outdoor range.
- Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.
Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
To avoid confusion... With the winter here most members will turn on the heat in the indoor range. The system is a forced air unit that blows air (warm) from behind the shooting ports. This is not in place of the fresh air blowers which must be also turned on. Rule of thumb "If the red lights are flashing don't shoot". Once the blowers (Clean Air ) are turned on, the lights will cease to flash. Please turn off all systems before leaving.
Also for all, there are three bays that have automatic target return systems. If you have any questions on how to use them please contact me.
Trap (Tony Capone):
Last month we held our annual Turkey shoot on Sunday Nov 15th. Thanks to everyone that came out to participate and to all those who helped.
The winter trap league has started on Nov 18th and will run for 17 weeks each Wednesday night. There's still time to join... For more league info and sign up email league director Doug Burden at DUGBURDEN@aol.com.
The next intro to trap class will be held Dec 5th at 9am
Get ready for the spirit shoot! Dec 13th at 9am! Don't even think about being late for this...
Archery (Dick Reichter):
The archery range remains open and available for use, however with the onset of the cold months Tuesday night archery will not be a recurring event, please feel free to continue to utilize the range at your convenience, we will revisit Tuesday nights in the spring of next year.
We are looking at establishing some beginner archery classes to commence in 2016; we are also considering having periodic shoots for archers. Although not permanently set, Saturday mornings is a time that archers will get together to shoot and also have breakfast.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any ideas suggestions on what you would like to see for archery going forward.
Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month of November, I received a number of complaints that some members are not wearing their membership badges while on club property. Please be reminded that badges must be visible at all times while on club property. Refusal to identify one’s self or one’s guest will cause for any person to be asked to vacate club property, (SPECIFIC RULES PAGE 6’, 1.19).
Locks were purchased an placed on the outdoor range storage unit.
Facilities (Mike Pierce):
No report.
Community Relations (Paul Miller):
We are accepting applications for scholarships to be selected in May and awarded in June, the application is here: http://andoversportsmensclub.org/downloads/scholarship-application.pdf
Every year we sponsor two campers for Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp for two weeks in early August. We are accepting names now for selection in April. Please see me at any meeting.
Plans are underway for one of our biggest community events of the year, the 2016 Fishing Derby. It will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 and will start at 6:00 am. Please let me know if you are available to help.
Training (Sam Washburn):
Most classes now have available dates in 2016. Formal archery classes will also be offered in 2016. Details will be published on the web site soon.
Membership (Steve Harsfald):
Another year is coming to an end. We have added many new members and I have seen new faces at Sunday morning breakfast and lots of new faces shooting Trap. I hope new and old members continue to use and enjoy the club and facilities, as we have made many improvements and continue into 2016 to make more improvements.
The December meeting and dinner is always the highlight of the year second only to the Annual Pig Roast, I hope to see new faces at the December meeting.
Continue to check the scrolling sign for club happenings, and ALWAYS check the club website prior to driving over for any closures or events taking place.
Please remember to pay your 2016 dues which are due for EVERYONE by December 31, 2015. If there is ANY problem, please contact me or the club treasurer for assistance.
