Board of Directors Update - May 2015

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of May 2015.

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
May 10 is Mother's Day, and again this year we are honoring Moms by offering a free breakfast. If she does not want to own up to being your Mom, that's OK, as long as she is a Mom.

Just ask for the Mother's Day special when ordering.

Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
I am working on a schedule for the party. The plan is to work on enclosing the building and installing more targets at 100 yards.

  • Remember to check club and range rules.
  • Remember to check the club calendar for dates that the range is closed for police training.
  • Fire arms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.
  • Ground shooting is not allowed on the outdoor range.
  • Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.
  • Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
Please be advised.  We have found items left at the club which have not been claimed. I will in a few days give a brief description of what they are. If they are yours, please let me know and we can make arrangements for their return. Contact me at littlee195hillside@yahoo.com.

Trap (Tony Capone):
No report received.

Archery (Bob Felsberg):
Repairs on the Archery cabin are progressing along and kudos to Bob Beals, Charlie McCue, Mike Pierce and Brad Reichter, for their time and efforts. Also thanks to all for help on various target change up and rotation on the 3D course.

May 13th work party will entail general cleanup of the outdoor range, cleanup of the debris and removal around target 18, and general trail maintenance/cleanup, and bridge repair. Anyone with a sacrificial chainsaw chain would be appreciated for cutting up debris, lumber with nails, telephone poles, etc.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month, I received three complaints from 3 members about a safety infraction on the Archery Range where they observed an archer shooting his bow from the walkway below the wall near the parking lot. The member was contacted through the information provided and was reminded of the range safety rules and apologized for any infraction that occurred.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):
No report received.

Community Relations (Paul Miller):
On Saturday, April 25th, the Andover Sportsmen's Club held their 66th Annual Fishing Derby on the shores of Sudden Pond. It was a cool, somewhat sunny, but windy day.  We had 110 registrants, and twenty trout were caught, the largest being 19 1/2". It was caught by John McClellan, 12, of Haverhill.  The second largest was 18", caught by Maxx Baron, 14, of North Andover, and the third was 17 3/4", caught by Chloe Gryllakis, 10, of Andover.  The youngest to catch a trout was Tom Osborne, 6, of Andover, who caught a 15 1/4 incher.  Trophies were awarded to all four winners.  I want to thank all that helped to make this event a success.

Congratulations to Gary Streeter of Andover, and Jacob Swanson of Weston, who will attend the Junior Conservation Camp this August.

Training (Sam Washburn):
No report received.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):
Members and prospective members we are fast approaching summer thinking it was not going to ever get here. The June Membership Meeting will be the last time before the September meeting to be accepted into the club as a member. Applications and payment must be received by May 31 to be included in the June membership.

In the last several reports I have asked for some help from ANY member who would help give a tour to prospective members on Sunday morning. The time can be made to accommodate your schedule, we will even buy your breakfast! I have about 3 members that have been helping out. We have over 1800 members and I know most like to talk, and tell others how good their club is. I can be reached through email membership@andoversportsmensclub.org and will be glad to give you my phone number when you email me. Current and New members lets step up and help out.
