Board of Directors Update - June 2016

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of June 2016:

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
June 25 is the next scheduled Youth Training class and no classes are scheduled for July or August. Please be advised that if you wish to shoot with a youth under the age of 18 a badge is needed and the next opportunity will not be until late September.

Outdoor Range (Phil Proto):

  • Recruiting to add to the outdoor team in order to provide maintenance, modifications or do outdoor range orientation.
  • Firearms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open. Cases or shooting bags are preferable.
  • A “Clear” command MUST be issued to all members shooting on the pistol and rifle bay’s  BEFORE attempting to unlock the yellow gate. Be sure to stand behind the yellow line.
  • Ground shooting at any targets is not allowed on the outdoor range.
  • Target frames are designed to hold one targets centered in the frame.
  • No silhouette targets allowed.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
Nothing to report.

Trap (Tony Capone):
Please remember to sign up for 1 round of trap at a time and after you shoot that round you may sign up for another (the trap operators are unpaid volunteers giving their time so you can shoot trap, so please be respectful to them and help out if you can).

On Saturday May 14th we had our spring ASC championship 100 bird shoot. Congratulations to Angelo V our 1st place finisher. Ken G 2nd place and Peter C 3rd.

Saturday June 4th we are having our annual TopShot event. See website for details.

The next Intro to trap will be held on June 18th and there is still available space in this class so check the ASC website to sign up

Archery (Robert Beals):
The archery field is progressing and hopefully within the next few weeks we will be able to re-open the entire practice area.

Additional trail markings have been added on the 3D course, permanent signs are planned to identify all three established trails.

We are looking for some volunteers to help rake the new grass area; there are a lot of small rocks that will interfere with being able to cut the grass without damaging the lawn mower. Please contact me via email so we can get this taken care of sooner rather than later.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
Nothing to report.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):
Nothing to report.

Community Relations (Matt Lavoie):
The 2016 scholarship recipients have been determined:

* Max M., Andover High
* Katelyn D., North Andover High

Each scholarship is worth $500. Recipients will be contacted shortly with their award.

Training (Steve Cioffi):
May has been busy time for training. We held "Intro to AR building" which was one of our most popular classes (65+ people). We held the RSO MEETING. Andover Sportsmens Club currently has 37 volunteering, certified RSO's. We held an "Intro to black powder than and now" Which also had a nice showing. We held a "Shot Shell Reloading class which the participants earned their NRA certification.

We are currently working on several new class to be announced shortly. Watch the web site for more information.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):
June is going to be a busy month.  The first weekend we will have our 2nd annual Top Shot competition, our regular membership meeting, and the Special Membership Meeting June 26th.  Our special meeting will require the patience and help from the regular club members and the new members.  Normally we have breakfast on Sunday morning from 730 to 9am.  If the regular members want breakfast, I urge you to come early. We will have a continental type breakfast for new members since there will be close to 100 new members being voted in that morning at 9am. PARKING will be controlled by club volunteers, so please work with them.  If you get blocked in PLEASE be patient.  The outdoor range and indoor range will be closed from 9am to 12 noon, the archery and trap field will function as normal.

Why are we doing this?  I have asked myself many times, but we have had a backlog of applicants since before December 2015, and we are trying to limit new members to 20 per month for safety, and doing the orientation.  So we are doing this special meeting and orientation to process applicants so they can enjoy the club this summer since the next group of 20 new members will be done in September.  I hope to report on the success of this event in my next director report.  Please watch the website for instructions about June 26th the week before that date.

As always, any questions please email me.
