Board of Directors Update - February 2015

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of February 2015.

Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
The Sunday breakfast is one of the member benefits that members have been enjoying. It has grown from serving about 12 meals a few years ago to a typical 50 to 60 meals on any Sunday. From 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM, $4.00 gets you a full breakfast and youths eat free. It also serves as a good opportunity to meet and socialize with other members and introduce their youths to the club.

With such a work load we are always looking for helpers in the kitchen. If you are interested please make yourself known on any Sunday.

Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
I am working on a schedule for a party. The date is weather dependent. Please also note:

• Firearms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.
• Ground shooting is not allowed on the outdoor range.
• Range closing: Don’t forget to check the calendar for closings.
• Prone shooting station: The prone shooting position is open.
• There is absolutely no shooting of ground targets.
• Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.
• Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
Due to the increase use of the club provided ear protection, the club must charge for them. If you need a set please deposit 20 cents in the same box as the targets.

When leaving the indoor range ensure that the light, heat, and the stairwell light are off.

Trap (Tony Capone):
January  was a very snowy month on the trap field. We managed to clear the snow and stay open all but one day. Please remember that with all the snow  it's very easy to fill the end of your shotgun barrel with snow, so please be careful!

On January 17th we had a 75 bird shoot and congrats to Erik for coming out on top that very cold day.

In January we started our first Winter Trap League and despite the cold snowy weather we've been able to get most league nights in. With the large number of shooters participating in the winter league, it looks like we will be having a spring trap league also.

Coming in February will be a trap Knockout tournament. This will be held on Saturday Feb 21st at 10am. If interested, please see website for more details.

Archery (Bob Felsberg):
Weather permitting, Tuesday Night archery is held every week 6-8 PM. Be sure to check the ASC website for weather related cancellations. Traditional bows (recurve bows) and arrows are available at the club for beginners.

The 3D range is always open during daylight hours to all club members, be it hiking, snowshoeing, archers, etc., but please follow the range rules and dress accordingly.

 Target repair materials are in and will be starting repair of 3D targets this month. Preliminary repair to exterior of the Archery Cabin and interior improvements are being discussed, more to follow on this.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month, I received information that a member had gone down range on the indoor range to clean up in front of the firing line. The surveillance system was reviewed and it was found that the incident did occur.

Please be reminded that going down range and forward of the firing line in the indoor range is not allowed due to safety concerns.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):

• Club house remodeling under way and proceeding on time.
• Kitchen countertops project still in process.
• Kitchen exhaust fans to be cleaned and rebuilt within the next two weeks
• Snowplowing has gone well for the last two storms, and looking forward to spring and summer.

Community Relations (Paul Miller):
The Fishing Derby will be Saturday, April 25th at Sudden Pond. I am looking for volunteers to help make this fishing derby a success.

Training (Sam Washburn):
The new classes, "refuse to be a victim" and "personal protection inside the home" are being offered in February and March. Please see the website for details. We will be offering additional classes later in the year.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):

Not to beat an old horse to death, but after the subject of the club using electronic dues invoicing and payment for the first time was discussed at meetings, I have made many calls to delinquent members trying to save them from having to reapply for membership. During many of these calls I was told, “It’s not my fault, and I should not have to pay late fees,” Members, we are all responsible for our actions, and below is the excerpt from the club bylaws.

2. The range fees for each member shall be regulated by the Board of Directors. The dues and entrance fees will be approved by a majority vote of the members present at the September meeting. In the event the members at the annual meeting in September do not vote to set new dues and entrance fees or a late fee rate, the then prevailing dues and entrance fees and/or late fee rates will remain in full force and effect until such time as the members at a special or annual meeting vote otherwise. Any member shall be deemed delinquent of nonpayment of dues as of December 31st and shall be dropped from the membership in the Club. He/she shall be reinstated on application to the Board of Directors, filed within 30 days after being dropped from membership. The dues in arrears, plus the late fee (as determined annually by the Board of Directors and approved by a majority vote of the membership must be paid at the time of filing the application. A member, after being dropped from membership and who fails to be reinstated as provided for, may be readmitted to membership as a new member upon payment of the regular entrance fee and current dues. Upon application to the Board of Directors, a member with special financial circumstances can be granted an extension of time by the Board of Directors, to pay the annual dues with or without any late fee.

I am still looking for some members to volunteer an hour of their time to give club tours for prospective members on Sunday morning at 11 am. If you like to talk and enjoy your club this would help greatly.

I am also still looking for anyone with artistic talent to help design some new club t-shirts and ID cards.
