Board of Directors Update - June 2015
Submitted by asc-admin on June 5, 2015 - 12:00pm
The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of June 2015.
Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.
Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
The next youth training session is June 27th. We will not be conducting classes in July and August due to vacation schedules, but will resume in September.
If you have youths under the age of 18 who do not have youth badges, they are not allowed to use the firearm ranges. Please contact me if you need assistance (ascfjb@aol.com).
Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
I would like to thank the following people for all of their hard work at the work party: Steve Cioffi, Larry Zavodskov, Max Zavodskov, Mike Luciano, Mark Karas, Bruce Caswell, Mike Gange, Phil Prorto, Mike Donovan, Eric Byrne, and Damien Glennon.
The new outdoor range rules will be posted this week. Please take a few minutes to read and understand them.
Effective July 1st, the outdoor range will be closed every other Sunday until 10:00am for maintenance. The even days the range will open late.
- Remember to check the club calendar for dates that the range is closed for police training.
- Fire arms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.
- Ground shooting is not allowed on the outdoor range.
- Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.
- Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.
Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
Please note that two jackets were left at the indoor range. You may contact me at littlee195hillside@yahoo.com for their return. They are an L.L. Bean, size large, gray with an "HP Storage" logo; and an L.L. Bean Traveler unisex, size large, black with a gray glove in the pocket.
Trap (Tony Capone):
The lead mining of the trap field is getting closer. On Monday, June 1st, the Trap Field will be sprayed with herbicide in the shot drop area for lead mining. Please keep children and dogs off of the trap field until after the grass has been regrown. The trap field will be CLOSED for any personal use during June 8th-12th during the day. Wednesday and Thursday night shooting will be open as scheduled, just be aware of the machinery that will be positioned to the rear so you can shoot
On Saturday the 23rd the new formatted trap training class went off without a hitch. I would like to thank all the instructors that helped out. Anyone interested in the next Intro to Trap should sign up through the website.
The trap field will be closed Saturday June 6th from 9am - 1pm for our first annual TopShot competition.
When coming out to shoot trap on Wednesday or Sunday, please keep in mind that the person running trap is volunteering their time -- so please lend a hand if you're around when it's time to clean up at the end.
Archery (Bob Felsberg)
I would like thank all that helped out at last month's work party. The outdoor archery range looks great, there was general trail cleanup, and the archery trailers were well cleaned and organized. Job well done.
Thanks also goes out to Bob Beals for running the last two weeks of Tuesday Night Archery during my absence.
General repairs to the exterior of the Archery Cabin are ongoing, and when completed, the interior update of the cabin will commence, more on this to follow.
Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month, I received one complaint from a member that he encountered two riders on horseback riding around the front gate. He spoke to them and advised them that they were on private property and they left. I did not make contact with the owner of the horse farm on the hill behind club property and will wait to see if another incident is observed or reported.
Facilities (Mike Pierce):
- Work on kitchen remolding has gone very well, installation of new kitchen walls has been done, installation on new air conditioner has been done.
- Work on outdoor range is in progress, soon to be completed.
- Repair to archery walls is in progress soon to be completed.
- New club LED sign has been installed, working very well come to the club and check it out.
Community Relations (Paul Miller):
Congratulations to our 2015 Scholarship winners:
Kaitlin M. Berube, North Andover; Nicholas J. Pelletier, Haverhill; Danielle M. Gillis, North Reading; Haley M. Spellman, Newburyport; Marianna Paradise, North Andover; from Andover High, Jacqueline Dean; and from North Andover High, Michael St. Cyr.
Training (Sam Washburn):
Over the summer we are putting together some news class offerings. Keep an eye on the website for more information.
Membership (Steve Harsfald):
Membership has been very steady during 2015. We have come to the summer break, and there will be no membership meetings during the months of July and August. As stated on the website, we have capped our New Member Applicants to 20 per month, and any applications received after the end of month cutoff will be put in for the following month's meeting. The application process is very simple and all instructions for on line, or check payment and email or snail mail application submission can be found here on the club website: http://andoversportsmensclub.org/members/join
There are still lots of activities and opportunities to be involved at the club for the rest of the year. New and old members just ask what you can do to become involved with your club. This includes helping with your range of choice, cooking and helping in the kitchen, or giving tours to prospective members and telling them about your great club!
We wish you a happy and SAFE summer.
