Board of Directors Update - April 2015

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of April 2015.

Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
The Essex County League is a group of clubs that monitor and influence State regulations regarding Hunting, Fishing and Firearms. They meet once a month in Danvers with one or two representatives from interested clubs in Essex County. They provide useful information to the member clubs regarding legislation and regulation changes. We currently have one representative that represents ASC and would like a volunteer to assist in some of the meetings. Anyone interested, please contact Frank Bleszinski (FJBASC@AOL.com).

Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
I am working on a schedule for a party. The date is weather dependent. More information will follow but look for late March or early April.

Remember to check the club calendar for dates that the range is closed for police training.

  • Firearms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.
  • Ground shooting is not allowed on the outdoor range.
  • Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.
  • Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
No Report

Trap (Tony Capone):
With spring finally here, we will be seeing more and more shooters on the trap field. Please make sure that you are signing up on only one squad at a time. After you shoot, you may put your name on another squad.

Please remember that there is absolutely no smoking inside of the trap warming house and we have added a cigarette butt trashcan for those that do smoke and we would love for you to put your cigarette butts in it when your finished smoking. (I'm tired of picking up butts on the ground). Also, please note that the gun rack has been removed from the warming house and is in place next to the other gun racks in the open shelter.

The March trap shoot was cancelled due to a parking conflict but has been rescheduled for Saturday April 11th at 9am. Immediately following this shoot will be the "Frozen 50" winter league lunch and trophy ceremony.
Congrats to Doug Burden for taking the top spot and having the most broken birds! Nice shooting...

I will be in contact with a few lead miners in the upcoming weeks to try and get our field mined of all the lead shot.

Archery (Bob Felsberg)
The Archery meeting held on Saturday, March 28th was well attended with over 25 ASC members in attendance. Thanks to all who came and participated. A general consensus was arrived at, and consequently a detailed request regarding description of the exterior repairs and the interior improvements to the Archery cabin is forthcoming in next several days. This request will be forwarded the ASC Facilities Director for appropriate action.

A discussion for the proposal of an indoor Archery Range was also introduced, with two plans presented. A meeting for future discussion will soon be posted. More to follow.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month, I received three complaints from members about incidents that happened on club property in relation to violations of club rules and violations of our safety and security procedures.

On 3/7, I received a complaint of trespassers using the outdoor range. One of our members inquired of the trespasser if he was a member or guest of the club and the answer was negative. The member did get a M.V. license plate number from the trespasser’s M.V. The trespasser was contacted and advised not to enter club property and advised on how to apply for a club membership.

On 3/11, I received an email about a member that was using a silhouette targets on the indoor range. The member was contacted and advised of the rule against their use and apologized.

On 3/15, I received a report of damage to a light bulb on the indoor range. The person who broke the bulb did not report the damage. He was contacted to be advised that we would like any damage reported in a timely manner so it can be repaired. The member did not return my call and a message was left.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):

  • Repair to water pipe in indoor range bathroom has been done after frozen pipe burst.
  • The club house remodeling is 100% done!
  • Installed new men’s room toilet.
  • Waiting on all snow to be gone to resume work on outdoor pistol range.
  • Kitchen countertops have been installed.
  • New kitchen floor has been completely installed.
  • Office remodeling in progress.
  • Snow plowing has gone very well at the club, and would like to thank Skip Welty for an excitant job all winter long and also a special thanks to all those who helped with the shoveling and the snow blowing throughout the winter, Great job guys well done!

Community Relations (Paul Miller):
Plans are underway for one of our biggest community events of the year, the 2015 Fishing Derby.  It will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 and will start at 6:00 am at Sudden Pond. I am looking for volunteers to help make this fishing derby a success.  We also need help setting up at Sudden Pond on Friday, April 24th, meeting at the club at 8:00 am. And later that morning, the pond will be stocked with fish.

Training (Sam Washburn):
Many upcoming classes still have openings. Please check the website for more information and register for a class.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):
Membership is still looking for a few members from Archery, Rifle & Pistol, and Trap & Skeet groups to help give tours for new prospective members on Sunday mornings.  I can adjust the time of the tour to fit YOUR schedule.  The only pre requisite is that you like being a member of our Club, and that you don't mind talking to a prospective new member and or a family interested in joining the Club.  This only takes about 30 minutes, and out of over 1800 members there has to be a few members who would help out a couple of Sundays a year.  Please contact me either by email or when you see me at the club.
This month we have a record new member class.  Please come out and have dinner at the club and welcome the new members.
