Board of Directors Update - March 2015

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of March 2015.

Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
February was a difficult month weather wise but the club, all ranges and classes were available with very little exception. Plowing was done in a timely manner and other snow removal was done by club volunteers. This demonstrates the exceptional character and attitude of our members. A big well done and our thanks to all those that helped.

Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
I am working on a schedule for a party. The date is weather dependent.  More information will follow but look for late March or early April.

Remember to check the club calendar for dates that the range is closed for police training.

Firearms should be transported from your car to the shooting stations unloaded and with the action open.

Ground shooting is not allowed on the outdoor range.

Prone shooting station: The prone shooting position is open.

Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame.

Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
I know this has been said again and again. Last week, the heat to the indoor range did not go on.  This caused the bathroom pipe to freeze. Hence there was no water in any of the bathrooms.  The problems could have been very costly. Not one member contacted any director or officer to report a problem. Please, it is every member's responsibility to report a problem at the club.

Trap (Tony Capone):
As February finally comes to an end, spring is hopefully right around the corner...

On January 21st we had a knockout tournament. We had 16 shooters and the top honors went to Angelo. 2nd place went to Ron, and 3rd to Whit. Thanks again to North Shore Firearms for donating some great prizes! Thanks Cheryl, Steve, Kip and everyone that helped out.

On Saturday March 21st there will be a 50 bird Trap shoot at 9am; please see the website for details.

I would like to thank Doug Burden for running the Frozen 50 trap league, it's going well and there are only a few weeks left. We are thinking of running a spring trap league; if anyone is interested please sign up at the trap warming house.

I would also like to thank Brian Roderick for spending two days clearing all the snow from the trap field! This took a lot of work and I know that everyone appreciates the hard work that went into clearing all that snow.

We would like to wish Steve Harsfeld well as he recovers at home from his surgery. Get well quick pal.

Archery (Bob Felsberg)
I would like to thank Tim Gallant again for the work and snow removal services at the Archery cabin and the outdoor practice range during February. Two of our “Tuesday Archery Nights” were cancelled for weather related reasons last month. Please be sure to check the ASC website if weather conditions seem questionable before attending.

I will be announcing a meeting for later this month regarding discussion and group approval for the interior changes to the Archery cabin. This meeting is open to all interested ASC members, with construction to commence in the spring. I would also like to set up around four committees (having of one representative attendee of this meeting chosen as a committee representative) to start discussion for proposing ideas regarding an indoor Archery range to Facilities Director and subsequently the entire ASC Board of Directors. Time and date of this meeting will be posted on the ASC website.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
During the month I did not receive or observe any complaints or issues related to safety or security. We did make some updates to our security camera system on property with the additional purchase of and placement of cameras.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):

  • Club house remodeling under way and proceeding on time.
  • Kitchen countertops project still in process.
  • Repair to water pipe in indoor range bathroom has been done after frozen pipe burst.
  • The club house remodeling is 90% done. Waiting on kitchen cabinets to be installed to finish total job.
  • Installed new men’s room toilet.
  • Waiting on all snow to be gone to resume work on outdoor pistol range.

Community Relations (Paul Miller):
Plans are underway for one of our biggest community events of the year, the 2015 Fishing Derby. It will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 and will start at 6:00 am at Sudden Pond. I am looking for volunteers to help make this fishing derby a success.

We are accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded in June, the application is here: http://andoversportsmensclub.org/downloads/scholarship-application.pdf

Training (Sam Washburn):
We've added additional classes to the schedule for the "refuse to be a victim" and the "personal protection inside the home" courses. If you want take those classes, go to the club website training page and register.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):
Thank you to everyone for all their kind thoughts and wanting to know how I am doing from my recent illness. I am home and feeling stronger every day, and hope to be back to at least "abby normal" very soon. I don't think I will ever be "normal".
