Board of Directors Update - January 2015

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of January 2015:

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
With the start of the new year we will change the cost of Sunday breakfast to $5. We believe that this will help save some time for the kitchen staff in making change and this will be the first price increase since the Indians came to Thanksgiving.

A reminder that any 8 to 18 year old youths are required to display a youth badge to use the firearm ranges. Please register them for a Youth class on the web site.

Outdoor Range (Phil Proto):

  • Outdoor Range maintenance changed to every Sunday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
  • Add additional signage to be put above bay between rifle and pistol to clarify rifles only.
  • Keep outdoor range lock box combination constant
  • Need outdoor range lock box key to be able to open trailer lock as well.
  • Plans for warming room contractor bidding initiated.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
Members, please note the heat failed last week. Please notify me or any board member if you notice anything that needs our attention.

The Pistol teams are using the range on Monday evenings between 630pm and 9pm.

If you have lost or left anything at the ranges, please contact me.

Trap (Tony Capone):
The Holidays are over and it's time to get back to shooting at ASC trap. We were very lucky to have an almost snow free month of December and some very warm weather. We did have a one small storm and due to the very cold temps and the freezing rain the trap field did ice over and due to a miscommunication we didn't have it cleared off in time so we had to cancel one Wednesday shoot. Thanks to Tim, Moe and Jon everything has been cleared and we are back to normal..

December brought us our annual spirit shoot on Dec 13th. This event was full as it always is each year! Everyone had a great time shooting all the different events.

The winter trap league is in full swing with 25 shooters and Doug B is doing a fabulous job keeping it running smooth. Remember, if you're not in the league YOU CAN STILL shoot on Wednesday.

At this time there are no shoots scheduled for the month of January. If this changes the information will be listed on the website.

If you would like to receive special trap event emails please contact me at aceaceallin@yahoo.com to be added to the email list.

Archery (Robert Beals):
The interior of the Archery container is now complete with the installation of a workbench, shelving and storage, all of the archery targets and supplies have now been permanently relocated. Thanks to Al Croteau and Brad Reichter for installing lights and outlets.

Additional railings have been added to the tree stand for safety and stability.

We are working on setting up an “Artic Shoot” which will take place in February, the date and other details will be posted on the website.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
There are no security issues or incidents to report.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):
No report received.

Community Relations (Matt Lavoie):
Plans are underway for one of our biggest community events of the year, the 2016 Fishing Derby. It will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Sudden Pond and will start at 6:00 am. Please let me know if you are available to help.

Every year we sponsor two campers for Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp from July 31 through August 12, to be held at Moses Scout Reservation, Russell, MA.  We are accepting names now for consideration. Please see me at any meeting.

We are accepting applications for scholarships to be selected in May and awarded in June. The application can be found at http://andoversportsmensclub.org/downloads/scholarship-application.pdf

Training (Steve Cioffi):
New and exciting training opportunities are schedule to be added in the near future. A certified class will be offered for those wanting to learn how to reload ammunition. Watch our training schedule for up coming dates.

Training will be emailing a membership survey. We would like to find out what the membership would like added to our training classes.

Membership (Steve Harsfald):
I hope everyone's holidays went well and wish everyone a Happy, Healthy, & Safe 2016.

After the first week in December we had an influx of applications for membership, and January was full. During the week of Christmas we had enough applications to fill new members for the month of February. We are into the first week of January, and the new member group for March is now half full. Every Sunday morning we have had groups of prospective new members having breakfast and touring the club. Everyone that has taken a tour has been very impressed with our club with what we have to offer, and have been made to feel welcome. YOU the membership should be very proud that our club is so well thought of and we have prospective new members waiting to join. Please welcome any new member, and old members that have not been around for awhile, and if you see someone walking around that may need help, please assist them, as we have all been new at one time.

Please check the website, and the digital sign for club events. Remember all members MUST have their club badge visible while on club property.

Members who have not paid their dues as of 12/31/2015 are considered late and will be assessed a late fee of $30. There is a new link on the website to take care of this. If there is a problem contact the Treasurer or Membership, if we do not hear from you by the end of January your key card will be turned off and you will have to re apply for membership.
