Submitted by asc-admin on February 13, 2019 - 8:41am
The Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp (MJCC) is a two week program designed to teach teens between 13-17 years old various outdoor recreation skills. Andover Sportsmen’s Club will sponsor (pay full camp tuition/$950 Value) two campers this year. Tuition covers lodging expenses, food, and activities.
- Camp Dates: August 4–16, 2019
- Camp Location: Moses Scout Reservation, 310 Birch Hill Avenue, Russell MA.
Campers are expected to attend the entire session in order to receive any certificates earned during the program. Inquiries should be directed to the Director of Community Relations.
The MJCC is operated by Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp Inc. Campers learn a variety of outdoor skills, including:
- Fishing
- Hunting (Campers will become certified in Hunter Education)
- Shooting sports
- Archery
- Boating (Campers will become certified in Small Boat Safety)
- Camping
The camp also aims to educate campers about conservation of natural resources and responsible use of the environment. Natural resource professionals from state agencies provide hands-on experiences and demonstrations and lead discussions on wildlife, fisheries, and forest management. In the evening, campers participate in demonstrations of outdoor recreation topics. The camp’s program introduces young people to the ethical responsibilities of hunting and fishing in order to foster careful stewardship of our natural resources.
