Board of Directors Update - November 2014

The Board of Directors reports are as follows for the month of November 2014.

Please see the separate "Letter from the President" for this month's President's Report.

Vice President (Frank Bleszinski):
The Youth Firearm training program continues to be very popular. The class size has been limited to 8 youths per month due to instructor availability.

The October class filled within one hour of being posted and the November class had 7 youths registered in one day. Should you try to register and no date appears, that would mean the class is full. If you email me (fjbasc@aol.com) with your desire to be on a notification list, I will email you when the next class is posted.

Outdoor Range (Dave Williams):
Thanks to the following people for helping out at the Fall work party.

  • Eric Webb
  • Robert Marcella
  • Mike Luciano
  • Bruce Caswell
  • Brad Richeter

Range closing : Don’t forget to check the calendar for closings.

Prone shooting station: The prone shooting position is open.

There is absolutely no shooting of ground targets. Target frames are designed to hold one target centered in the frame. Always bring your gun up to the target not down to the target. This will save the roof and keep the rounds on the club property.

There will be a poker shoot held on the Outdoor Range on Saturday November the 29th. There will be a 30 foot pistol ,50 yard rifle and 100 yard class. Each person fires 10 shots at his target and plays his best hand. The entrance fee will be $5 per target class, and the best three shooters will win in each class. The shoot will start at 9am.

Indoor Range (Al Croteau):
This past Sunday the indoor range was not available to members. The monthly pistol safety course was being held. Yet, many members tried to use the range.

Since the pistol teams have began their season they will be using the indoor range most Monday evenings. Therefore, it would be advisable to check the web site for the range availability.

With the colder weather on hand, the heat will be used in the range. Please shut down the heating system when you leave the range (and also all lighting including the outer hall light).

Trap (Tony Capone):
The fall trap and skeet shooting is in full effect at ASC. We had many busy days shooting in October and I'm sure November won't be any different.

On October 25th we had our ASC Trap championship event. Congratulations go out to Angelo V for winning the "A" class and Paul S for winning the "B" class. Special thanks go out to Doug Burden for scoring the event and keeping things moving along.

November will bring us the Turkey Shoot. It will be held on Sunday Nov. 23rd at 9am. This event will be a lot of fun and if you like Trap, Skeet and 5-Stand you will LOVE this event! So don't miss it!

We will be having a KO tournament on Sat, November 15th at 11:30am. Also in November, the club will be getting it's yearly load of clay targets. This happens on Wednesday Nov 19th at 5pm.

Archery (Bob Felsberg):
Tuesday Night Archery will continue through November.

Fall Archery activities involve maintenance to the 3D course including, but not limited to: the bridge was completed at target #19, we are repairing the other bridge at target #18, along with adding five shooting positions in the target #19 area, moving and rotating targets for the 3D course, adding more mulch on the outdoor archery range, target repair, new target procurement and general trail improvement. Also, improvements to the archery cabin are being reviewed. More to follow.

Security (Bill MacKenzie):
The month of October was slow with only one observation to report.

While on one of my visits to the club, I noticed some members conducting various chores. A few of the members were using power tools, chain saws and trimmers. Please be reminded that when using such tools, it is prudent to use safety equipment such as eye protection, hearing protection and gloves to protect one from injury.

Facilities (Mike Pierce):
Progress is continuing with respect to the various facility projects mentioned in previous reports. In that context, within recent days, we have received:

  • The containers that will hold the sand safety side walls at the new outdoor pistol range
  • Ceiling tiles as part of the refurbishing of the clubhouse project

In addition the series of multi-use flag poles at the end of the parking lot near the archery range have been installed.

Community Relations (Paul Miller):
Plans are underway for one of our biggest community events of the year, the 2015 Fishing Derby. It will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 and will start at 6:00 am.  The signs we set up to show the way to Sudden Pond are in need of replacement.  If you are experienced with making signs, please let me know.

Training (Sam Washburn):
Slots are still available in the following classes between now and year's end:

  • Introduction to 5 stand
  • Introduction to Skeet
  • Youth Firearms safety

2015 classes have been added for the Pistol Accuracy class. 2015 dates for our other classes will be added between now and year-end.

We are planning to offer two new classes in 2015 based on NRA curriculums: “Home Protection” and “Personal Protection outside the home”. Watch the website for further announcements on those classes.

See the website for full information about all our class offerings
